Memorial Day

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” – John F. Kennedy

Memorial Day began as a way to honor those who died in the Civil War and has become a day to honor all American veterans who gave their lives in sacrifice to our nation.

The National Archives holds a wealth of material documenting Memorial Day and honoring those who have served in all branches of the United States military, along with a catalog of photographs of Presidential wreath-laying ceremonies held at Arlington National Cemetary.

On this Memorial Day and every day, we honor and remember the brave individuals who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

In observance of Memorial Day, our offices will be closed on Monday, May 25th, and will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, May 26th.
