Which CNC plate and sheet cutting process is best for you?
It is not always an easy question to answer. Many factors need to be considered including the alloy, the thickness of material, cutting tolerance required, preferred edge condition and processing time. Potential options include high-definition plasma and water-jet cutting. Both technologies can process squares, rectangles, strips, circles, rings, and custom shapes cut per print with ease, thus reducing or even eliminating the extra scrap cost.
Each cutting process has benefits. Here are a few points to consider for your precision cut parts:
High-definition plasma cutting is a process that cuts through electrically conductive materials by means of an accelerated jet of hot plasma. This method provides high speed cutting of thicker materials. Hi-definition plasma is fast and often will be the most economical choice. Another benefit of our high-definition plasma machine is that it has a multi-axis bevel head that can easily cut V, K, X and Y weld prep bevels for you, therefore reducing production bottlenecks and overall costs.
Water-jet cutting is a stream of high pressure water mixed with an abrasive that can penetrate through material and eliminate heat affected zones.Water-jet cutting provides good, precise tolerances with minimal post process cleaning and finishing. Water-jet cutting is much slower than high-definition plasma cutting, but it offers several benefits. Water-jet cutting produces a very square and smooth cut face resembling a sand blasted surface. You can utilize water-jet cutting to produce a near-net shape that could potentially eliminate further processing or finish machining on the part.
At Corrosion Materials, we can process a wide range of material thicknesses to very precise dimensions with our CNC processing equipment. We can cut standard shapes such as rectangles, squares, circles, rings, strips as well as custom shapes with and without holes or slots. We can also cut your corrosion resistant alloy plate weld prep bevels for you with our state-of-the art high-definition plasma cutting and beveling machine.
